It's A Mod, Mod World

There are three things that I loathe about purchasing furniture:

♥It always seems to be outrageously expensive, forcing me to subsist on nothing but peanut butter and Top Ramen for months on end after taking it home.

♥No matter how many diagrams and directions are included, managing to fit each piece together so that it resembles something from Planet Earth seems synonymous with being handed a million dollars by a complete stranger.

♥Once you manage to put it all together, moving it ever again is completely out of the question.

Thus, I have decided that modular furniture may be just the thing I need for a little piece of mind, and a lot of home décor splendor.

I was one of those kids who devoted hours upon hours to playing Tetris on my cumbersome, gray, old-school Game Boy (which I still have lurking in my bedroom closet, if memory serves me correctly). When I wasn’t glued to the green screen, I was dreaming of the colorful falling blocks in my sleep. Perhaps that explains why I am so taken by this 2+1 bit from SDESIGNUNIT. One minute it’s a single bed; the next, a sofa; and to round it all off, it even transforms into a table with two chairs. I’m not sure whether it’s my Tetris-loving heart, or my desire for simplicity, but either way, I think that this work of cleverness needs to make an appearance in my bedroom ASAP!

I’m sure that this sounds ridiculous, but I truly believe that this Modular Table Set from Way Basics was created with me in mind. For a mere $135 they offer up a table and four chairs in cotton candy colors that are water resistant, completely recyclable, and, my personal favorite, easy-to-assemble, setting up in three seconds flat (less time than it takes my nails to dry!) and requiring no tools. This is the piece de resistance of modular furniture, and the new apple of my eye. My only problem now is choosing a shade...should I mix and match, or create a pink palace by sticking to one color scheme?

First I have to accept that our male counterparts have better wardrobes than we do; now I have to admit that toddlers? Yeah, they have way cooler furniture than grown-ups. Like these Offi EVA Foam Chairs. Designed by Tarantino Studios, and featured in blue/green or red/orange color combos, these simple Offi selections consume a large part of my furniture dreams. I understand that they were constructed with the child in mind, but they hold up to 300 pounds, so it’s obvious that I’m not the only one harboring the idea of purchasing a set for my little nephew than commandeering them for my own use!

Regardless of the fact that I was raised in a house of women, with no male siblings in sight, I have always been a Lego lover. The fact that I could, quite possibly, create actual furniture for myself out of them never occurred to me, however. So the discovery of these LunaBlocks? The highlight of my week. Available in an assortment of colorful colors, these lifesize Legos give you the ability to take the wheel in the home décor driver’s seat, and create anything your heart desires using just a touch of creativity, and a few of your own personal touches (like a couch pillow or kitschy throw). Sure, each block may cost between $20 and $55; but once your creation is complete, you’ll have your very own Legoland theme park right at home!

Do you remember when inflatable chairs began to take over the world back in the nineties, completely replacing the beloved bean bag chair, and claiming the affections of teens from California to Canada ? Back then, I thought they were kind of ridiculous. But now, after a few years of struggling with heavy, hernia-inducing pieces, I believe that I’m ready to embrace them wholeheartedly. These Inflatable Bubble Chairs from I Want One of Those are simply sublime. Crafted out of five large and five small inflatable balls, I believe that sitting upon one of these would be akin to sitting upon a giant beach ball, sans the sand, of course. There’s no doubt about it, I want one of these.

Trunk Show

“E is for elephant and for Erika. E is for elephant and for Erika...” Those seven words were repeated to me over and over again when I was learning how to spell my name back when I was in preschool. Imaginably it was that particular drill that made me so fond of the larger than life, wiggly eared animals that are synonymous with good luck; and the reasoning behind my search for a captivating elephant inspired pendant necklace, much like this vintage beauty from Lattice Designs. Between the off-white enamel covering the elephant’s diminutive head; the white, sparkling crystals filling in for his eyes and dotting his tiny gold body; and the lifelike sculpturing of his little toes and flippy tail, I feel plum lucky just having laid eyes on this trumpeting treasure!

Sleeping Beauty

As a child, I often questioned why Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty) refused to wake-up after pricking her finger on a spinning wheel, despite the attempts of three magic fairies. At the time, I didn’t realize that it would take a kiss from the handsome Prince Phillip to do the trick. Now, however, I don’t blame her for craving some shut-eye. For if I was resting on any of the blissful offerings from Rubie Green’s Bedding Collection, well, I would want to make like Sleeping Beauty and never wake up again myself.

I am truly head over heels for their collection, and it has nothing to do with the fact that everything they offer is organic and eco-friendly, nor does the credit fall to their reasonable prices. Instead, I am more stricken with the line due to the serene, pastel-inspired colors, in addition to the advertising technique which pictures a relatable twenty-something reading on a couch in a sophisticated sundress, tossing a sunshine-colored pillow about, and simply relaxing – things that we would all love to do while resting upon such scrumptious bedding.

The East Village Duvet Cover is my best-loved offering of the lot. The white zig zag design on the pale pink backdrop is fit for a king (or queen!). I can’t help but want to curl up in it with a warm mug of coffee much like the picture illustrates. It seems like the ideal plan for a lazy Sunday morning; complete with warm, buttery croissants, and a few glossies.

Yes, yes, yes...I’m fancying myself a Sleeping Beauty moment right about...now.

Tote-ally Adorable

Nothing marks the change of seasons for me as well as the introduction of new designers to Target stores. But for spring it isn’t the GO International Collection that has caught my eye. Rather it’s Felix Rey’s contribution to the handbag department. Namely their Bora Bora Canvas Tote with Fish Appliques. Not since the release of Paul & Joe’s Plaid Owl Bag have I been so enamored with a Target tote. The blue and white stripe-like waves are very elementary; while the sequin-adorned fish remind me of my dance recital days when I would don flapper-esque sequin headbands and tap shoes with glee. It’s the toggle locks, and gold metallic trim and straps, however, that completely clinch the deal. Equal parts beachy and chic; this is a bag that would work perfectly as either a carryall for a day spent seaside, or a trendy tote for the longwinded shopping trips that inevitably accompany the arrival of summer.

I Didn't Steal Your Boyfriend

I did, however, steal his pants.

Boyfriend jeans are like a girls’ savior when she’s in the throes of feeling frumpy instead of fabulous, and would rather spend the day in sweatpants or their denim alternative instead of even attempting to shimmy into her prized skinny jeans. But finding the perfect pair can be a challenge in and of itself that leaves you huffy and whiny – two things that never look flattering on a girl. So here are a few no-fail selections that your closet – and your bottom half – are simply calling for.

AG Adriano Goldschmied “Tomboy Jean” Okay, so I just fell in love. With a pair of pants. These Tomboy Jeans are possibly one of the cutest pairs of pants I have ever seen. The whiskering that makes the dark color fade to light and vice versa gives them such an authentic, worn-in feel; and the fact that they look incredible when worn cuffed or straight make them completely versatile, and painstakingly coveted. This piece of denim glory gives a whole new meaning to the word tomboy.

Current / Elliott “Super Loved Destroyed” I have never been one to embrace the grungy, destroyed, worn denim look. In fact, under normal circumstances, I turn the tattered fashion away, looking for something a little more sleek and pulled together. Current / Elliott have changed that for me. These Super Loved Destroyed pair, while obviously distressed, are done so in a stylish way. These are, to me, the perfect boyfriends. Not too much bulge. Not too much bag. And the holes, while obviously present, do not bring to mind disheveled disaster but sophisticated style. I am just itching to pair these with a flowy, empire waist top to add a slice of romanticism to the look.

Black Orchid “Opal Black Out Boyfriend” I’m not going to lie, I have a thing for white jeans. That being said, I’m just going to overlook the fact that I have never seen a guy wear white pants before (have you?) and say that these Opal Black Out Boyfriends are an exquisite addition to the boyfriend jean craze. The fact that they manage to keep a feminine shape, while at the same time retaining a loose, laid-back appeal make them a winner in my book – and a must-have, as well!

What Comes Around Goes Around “Vintage Boyfriend 501 Feather Jean” The inclusion of these Vintage Boyfriend 501 Feather Jean truly goes against everything I stand for, as I am a dark wash denim fanatic, and don’t really care for the destroyed look; but just one glance at this light wash offering from What Comes Around Goes Around sporting multiple holes, tears, and rips, and I was hooked. Maybe it’s the pairing with the Converse low-tops that invokes thoughts of males the world over, but to me these are the epitome of the term boyfriend jean; and I couldn’t be more infatuated with them.

Genetic Denim “Charlie Dominant Button Fly Straight Leg Jean” We’ve all seen them. The hipster boys with the rocking hair, who always have the jeans that we wish we could find during our weekly shopping sprees, yet never seem to. Well girls – surprise surprise – here they are. These Charlie Dominant Button Fly Straight Leg Jeans are the denim of our dreams. They’re fitted yet relaxed; feminine yet airy; baggy yet body-hugging. In other words...they’re perfect.





I can’t wait for everyone to meet my new boyfriend...how about you?

♥Lacy Lady Regardless of the fact that lace gloves are synonymous with tea parties, the Victorian era, and twirling parasols as you traipse the streets in floor-sweeping ball gowns, I believe that every girl should have a pair hidden in her closet for moments when she wants to feel feminine and dainty. I myself am currently in the market for a pair, and am shocked to see how many offerings are out there – especially in the twenty-first century – to choose from. These white ones are just screaming to be paired with pearls and a demure, pale-colored slip dress. These were made with a debutante ball in mind. And I am utterly convinced that the ravishing, yet oh-so backstabbing temptress Penelope Hayes from Anna Godbersen’s Luxe series would don this alluring red pair with her crimson-colored frocks.

♥Le Tempting Truffle I have always been a finicky eater – even when it comes to dessert. Though I love the so-called “Original Sundae Cone,” also known as the Nestle Drumstick, I do not eat it for the ice cream – rather for the cone and the solid chocolate that encases it. Which, when you think of it, makes for many wasted calories. So I have decided to put my Drumstick down, forgo the calories wasted on unwanted ice cream, and pick up one (or five) of these decadent Truffle Cones from FireLilly Gourmet Chocolates. Bite-sized, individually wrapped, and available in six flavors (almond, peanut butter, chocolate milk, minty mousse, dark raspberry, or decadent dark), these are equal parts charming and darling; and I’m ready to devour them whole.

♥Gilty As Charged I tried to stay away from The Gilt Groupe. To ignore the postings proclaiming designer merchandise for dreamlike prices. To abstain from clicking those colorful banner ads depicting all sorts of splendor. I tried, and I failed. Yes, I could have simply not clicked the “Accept Invitation” button; but it was impossible. It was calling my name; and I succumbed to its lure. Sadly, or maybe not so sadly, I love it! I feel as if I am shopping at a lavish boutique when browsing the site. Not to mention that the prices are phenomenal. Yes, I’m Gilty as charged. This week alone I have been tempted with the Gryson Purple Tutu Double Zip (that I was gushing over just last week) for the unreal price of $390; the Foley + Corinna Silk Beaded Necklace Dress for just $198; and an adorable ADAM Belted Shirt Dress for $174. Somebody please hide my credit card!


♥Let It Shine I thought I was over the whole legging craze. I mean, my cotton leggings (which I own countless pairs of) have been sitting in my dresser drawer since last summer, long forgotten. But a new type of leggings have come into my life: glossy ones with high shine. I don’t know why I have fallen so head over heels for them; but they’re simply spectacular. They remind me of liquid legs, or a fashion-conscious super hero. While I have no great love for stirrup pants, and am well-aware that they went out with the 80’s, these are the most divine pair of “liquid leggings” that I have ever seen. High-gloss, high-glam, and high-fashion; but low priced. These ones have the power to blind passersby due to an extra sparkle that I can’t resist. These fit, in the words of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, “like a glove!” And these are my designer brand dream. Oh yes, I’m ready to take a pair home.

♥Tweet Tweet! I am probably the last person on earth to join Twitter, but now that I have, I am utterly addicted. Tweeting has become like second nature to me. Maybe it has something to do with the 140-character limit (who doesn’t love trying to tell an entire story in just one or two short sentences?), or the fact that I can follow anyone my heart desires – even celebrities; either way, I am crazy about it. The only problem? Twitter is blocked where I work, so I can’t tweet during my lunch hour. Oh, the horror! But, you can still follow me here.

♥I Heart Lynn Despite the fact that I am out of my teens (though not by much), I have continued to purchase and read both Seventeen and Teen Vogue with much glee each and every month. Reeled in by the cover of the May 2009 issue of Vogue proclaiming The Real Lives of Models, however, led me to take a copy home, where I promptly fell in love with the eccentric Lynn Yaeger. Her tale of surviving and thriving without a Lanvin bag and a diamond-encrusted snake ring after being laid off from The Village Voice, and forced into living on a freelance writer’s budget in the piece On the Market was read and adored from start to finish multiple times. This is a woman whom I would very much enjoy meeting over coffee in a quaint little café to discuss fashion and finances with. A woman who would make for the perfect partner in shopping crime. J’adore her!

Little Nebby

Neb-u-la: Astronomy A diffuse mass of interstellar dust or gas or both, visible as luminous patches or areas of darkness depending on the way the mass absorbs or reflects incident radiation.
I don’t think that I have ever been as happy as the moment I found my package from Lola and George sitting in the mailbox. Opening the mailing envelope alone gave me goosebumps; and as I removed the jewelry box sporting an elegant taupe and white grosgrain ribbon tied in a pretty little bow, I couldn’t contain my excitement. But the wrapping alone was nothing compared to the magnificence awaiting me inside.

Lying on a bed of crinkled off-white shredded paper was the most decadent piece of jewelry I have ever laid eyes on. Countless glimmering Swarovski crystals winking up at me from a resting place made of distressed copper wire woven into a shape reminiscent of a bird’s nest; smaller crystals circling the larger additions like planets orbiting about in space. I was in utter adoration of this ring when I saw it on the Lola and George website, but since seeing it in person I must admit that the picture does not do it justice. It is one hundred times more lovely when viewed up close and personal.

Little Nebby, as I have christened my new best friend, is, in my mind, multiple pieces in one. At times, the Swarovski crystals appear ruby red, suddenly they are violet. Then turquoise. Then lime. Then blue. Then pink. Then purple. The colors change like an effervescent rainbow, picking up the tones and shades of their surroundings, and creating an accessory that leaves people in a state of awe tinged with extreme longing. This is a ring that you simply cannot take your eyes off of. I should know; as I sit here typing this, I find myself hypnotized by the beauty of it, staring up at me from its current home – my right index finger. How I ever made it through life thus far without something as divine as this accompanying me through my many ups and downs is truly beyond me; but now that it has arrived...well, I think I can die happy.

Coffee Break with the Naughty Secretary

They type memos at the speed of light. They answer phones promptly and professionally. They run here and there yet still manage to look perky, cute, and absolutely amazing. Yes, secretaries are true wonders who, according to a History & Heraldry mug someone gave me for Christmas last year, “are loyal, efficient, dedicated, and secretly run the world!” And so in honor of Secretary’s Day (or, rather, the more politically correct Administrative Professionals’ Day), here’s an extra special Q and A with Naughty Secretary Club mastermind Jennifer Perkins.

Were you ever a secretary yourself?
Jennifer: My first job straight out of college was as an Administrative Assistant to Business and Government Relations. My time as a secretary was very uneventful since the majority of the time I was without a boss or anything to do. I used the time between 9 and 5 to get on the internet and build my business.

Why the name Naughty Secretary Club? Do you believe that all secretaries are naughty and/or do you know something about secretaries that the rest of us don’t?
J: Since I was working on my business and not secretarial duties I decided I was a naughty secretary and started the club.. I do not believe that all secretaries are naughty; I have known and worked with some very straight-laced ones in my time.

When/how did you start the Naughty Secretary Club?
J: Around the year 2000. Naughty Secretary Club started as an online ‘zine with band interviews, recipes, craft projects and more; and eventually morphed into a jewelry website.

What’s on your wish list right now?

What do you love to read (magazines/books, etc.)?
J: I just had a baby so my husband reads to me a lot these days. When we first came home from the hospital and would be up in the middle of the night he would read me David Sedaris. I LOVE craft books and hoard them and get such cheap thrills when publishers send me review copies. I also adore going to the Half Price Book Store and loading up on used magazines (fashion and home decorating). That way it is so much cheaper and I have less guilt if I don’t get around to ever reading them.

What is your go to accessory?
J: I have several favorites but almost always you can catch me in a Cha Cha Bracelet, huge earrings of some sort and the same four rings. Funny, I have TONS of jewelry, but tend to wear the same pieces. I rotate purses and shoes pretty often.

Favorite places to shop?
J: I spend way too much time on Etsy, but I am honestly not a huge shopper. I love flea markets and go whenever I can.

Any advice for girls who love fashion/design?
J: Don’t be afraid to make designs that appeal to you even if everyone else thinks they are whack-a-doodle-doo. I started making jewelry because there was nothing big and eccentric enough for my taste. The fact that other people were interested in it was secondary. I make jewelry that I like first and foremost and from there I just hope that other people like it too.

Romper Room

I used to think that rompers were specifically made to be worn as a beach cover-up, but ever since spotting Rebecca Taylor’s Spring Blossom Romper in – of all places – a fashion editorial for Cosmopolitan magazine, I have been coveting the floral-inspired, fuchsia and purple piece of fashion fabulosity. The silky smooth creation reminds me of cool, comfy pajamas; yet the ruffle trim and deep V-neck that features an alluring lace-up tie make it runway ready. I want to pair it with lots of gold bangles and demure lilac/lavender colored shoes. This would be my go-to outfit for the upcoming warmer months if I had $345 lying around, and it wasn’t sold out everywhere. For now I suppose I’ll have to keep my eye out for a good knockoff, or hope that a romper fairy seemingly pulls one out of midair and delivers it directly to my door!

Heart of Glass

Pink may be my favorite color, but blue is the color that dominates my wardrobe (aside from black, white, and gray, that is). This is a fairly strange predicament indeed. Why? I own gorgeous rings in every color imaginable, yet I am in dire need of one that is blue. One that captures the true beauty of the bright sky. The glistening colors of the ocean. The missing piece of the rainbow. Finally, I have found it. This 4 ½ Carat Blue Topaz, Sapphire and Diamond 10K White Gold Ring from Ice.com is my new love – and not just because it’s a heart. The blue topaz centerpiece is lovely through and through with a sparkle that puts a true spring in my step. Princess for a Day

Blame it on my many re-reads of Meg Cabot’s The Princess Diaries, or too many years of spoiling myself with Disney fairytales, but I have always wanted to be a modern-day princess, complete with jeweled tiara, elegant ball gowns, and, of course, a handsome Prince Charming. Sadly, wearing tiaras in everyday life isn’t exactly embraced by society, and doing so would make you stick out like a sore thumb. But Jennifer Behr’s hair accessories are the most elegant way to pay tribute to tiaras and envelop the royal in you – even if you’re decked out in denim.

The Encrusted Crystal Padded Headband is, in the words of Mary Poppins, “practically perfect in every way.” Piles upon piles of glimmering Swarovski crystals are hand-stitched to a midnight black padded headband creating an angel-inspired halo effect that is absolutely heavenly.

Maybe Ms. Behr is as enamored with F. Scott Fitzgerald as I am, because this Petite Vined Crystal Headwrap is so evocative of the Roaring Twenties that it makes me slaphappy. To slip this sparkly beauty on while wearing a fringe-encrusted Badgley Mischka would make me feel like a true flapper – a regal one, that is.

Most likely you are ready to wring my neck due to the amount of times I have mentioned the hippie headband, but I can’t help myself, I love it. Almost as much as I love this Knotted Crystal and Chain Headwrap. This piece of dazzling decadence is the princess version of the hippie headband. Laced with crystals and vintage chains, then braided and stitched with a vintage ribbon, this majestic piece can be worn circlet-style or the way of the traditional headband. I want to wear it circlet style, of course, with big, teased hair – it would look so Roman/Greek Goddess inspired if worn in this fashion.

In my world – and it’s a happy world at that – lace = love. And nothing says love like this Wide Crystal Lace Headwrap. It’s ethereal. It’s dainty. It’s sophisticated. I could most certainly see a ballerina wearing this on stage, or the late Princess Di donning one during an opulent ball filled with nobles and dapper gentleman. Oh, how I covet this morsel of magnificence.

I am green with envy over the Giant Crystal Knot Headwrap – especially the emerald offering. Who could possibly pass up the opportunity to flaunt an eye-catching knot of Swarovski crystals atop their head? In the world of make-believe (or reality) it simply isn’t done.

♥Cardy Love Say what you will about UGGS, but I love them. Sure, they may not be the most fashion-forward form of footwear, but they are completely comfy, have an element of messy chic when paired with babydolls, and are perfectly cozy when you’re being smacked around by the cold winter wind. Thanks to this picture, I am currently crushing on Cardy UGGS. They act like a sweater for your feet, and have this very casual, slouchy, carefree look that makes you appear effortlessly gorgeous – even if you just rolled out of bed. Needless to say, I don’t currently have the cash for these beauties, so I purchased these lovelies for $150 less, and worship them just as much. Now all I need is for the weather to warm up just a smidgen so I can pair them with my denim mini and I’ll be good to go!

♥Play with Your Food Do you know how when you were little you always wanted to play with your food? Shuffle it around on your plate. Pick it up and examine it with your fingers. Check its resilience by tossing it against walls, or at your obnoxious older sister’s head. I was scolded for those things, and felt restrained to be reprimanded for doing something so fun. Which is why I think I need to pay a little visit to Lambert’s Café, the home of Throwed Rolls. This is a restaurant where they not only allow customers to play with their food, but encourage it because...well, the servers even get in on the action by throwing rolls at you the moment you walk in the door. Never before have I had such a strong desire to have fresh-baked rolls tossed in my direction.

♥Smart Make-Up Mascara only lasts for three months. Lip gloss should only be used for eighteen to twenty-four months. Liquid eyeliner should never be kept for more than three to six months. Oil-free foundation is useless after one year. Nail polish should be tossed after twelve months. Hello! I am not a mathematician or scientist, nor do I have the time to keep track of how old my make-up is. I mean, I can hardly keep track of my friend’s birthdays. So my discovery of CARGO’s blu_ray High Definition Lip Gloss with Timestrip Technology? All I can say is that it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Timestrip inside the cap keeps track of when you first start using it, and alerts you when you should trade it in for a new tube. I’m craving it in Laredo or Halifax , but would gladly take it in any opulent shade.



♥Beat It! Distressed denim may be the big thing right now, but I am currently itching for a distressed bag. Something weatherbeaten yet wonderful. Something grungy yet glamorous. Something that can easily make the transition from spring to summer and fall to winter. This one has an amazing amount of pockets. This fulfills my craving for a mustard-colored bag; and can be carried satchel-style or hitch a ride on your shoulder. And this makes me long for my short-lived horseback-riding days. Ah, memories.

♥Coutorture For years I have loved Coutorture and have spent countless hours each day poring over their features. On Sunday I was thrilled to become a part of their community. But Tuesday takes the cake. For on April 13, 2009 Café Fashionista was featured on the fashion loving website. Coutorture is to fashion bloggers what Entertainment Weekly is to an up-and-coming actress; so to be featured there? A dream come true. Thank you Megan! Thank you Coutorture! Thank you everyone! ♥Oh So Olivia Despite the fact that The Hills has always been a guilty-pleasure of mine, I have never so much as seen an episode of The City. Regardless of that, I love socialite Olivia Palermo. She is a doe-eyed beauty harboring the life I’d love to lead: beautiful clothes, beautiful friends, and a beautiful living space located in Tribeca. It is my belief that she is the living, breathing, true life version of Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf; and I adore her.

Aunt Judy Adoration

I’ve always wanted a stylish aunt, grandmother, or distant relative who hoarded clothes from decades ago away in a musty old attic, only to hand them over to me when I was of the appropriate age and size to wear them. Since I don’t have that luxury, I guess I’ll have to live vicariously through the Aunt Judy thought up by designer Heidi Merrick.




Merrick's Aunt Judy Krinkle Chiffon and Aunt Judy Crepe de Chine are two elegant, timeless pieces that I would love to have in my closet. The silk and chiffon textures mingle wonderfully with one another; and their pairing with ruffles and pearl buttons is nothing short of breathtaking. I’m not sure who, exactly, Aunt Judy is, but I certainly wish she were a part of my family.

Dressmaker Dreams

I declared that I was going to be a fashion designer at the tender age of six, and was promptly given a Singer Toy Sewing Machine which had non-working moments, moments of violence where it would prick my finger, and moments where it would complete a stitch or two before falling apart. In reality, I believe that what I wanted more than a sewing machine was a dress form. Something lifesize and lovely; similar to the ones I had spotted numerous times during model home tours where they were used as a chic piece of décor. My dreams of being a fashion designer have since passed, but my love for dress forms is still alive, kicking, and ready to be fulfilled.





I am truly convinced that this Vintage Iron Dress Form is destined to reside in a quaint little cottage surrounded by fields of purple and red flowers. The creamy white backdrop is just begging to be decorated with bright colors. I’m thinking that a sash cinched around the waist, or a few faux flowers threaded through its bars may be just the thing it needs to bring this beauty to life.

Bulletin boards are a necessity in my daily life. I use them to post reminders to myself; hang pictures of friends and family, and about ten thousand other things. But those typical cork-made bulletin boards? So boring. I want to use these Dress Forms from PB Teen instead. The colors are very Lilly Pulitzer, while the design is absolutely perfect for the fashionista who wants to organize her life!

It will remain as is, and be placed in an area where I can gaze upon it day or night; picturing myself dancing the part of Clara in The Nutcracker.

There is something so necessary about a desk or nightstand embellished with a unique piece that will turn heads. I believe that this Tres Chic Table Dress Form from PB Teen is it. Mimicking the vintage mannequins of Paris , these come complete with loopy wire bows around their waist, and a desire to be trimmed with everything from retro brooches to creamy pearls, and bright sunglasses to love letters.

Bloomin' Belts

I am really not the biggest fan of belts, but I love these flower numbers from ban.do. They remind me quite a bit of the sashes that used to adorn the dresses I wore as a child (which came attached, an obvious indication that even the manufacturers knew they would wind up lost), or the lovely ribbons that you tear to pieces on Christmas morning as you struggle to discover the true contents inside that large rattling box. The colors offered are very muted and ethereal – ranging from ballerina pink, antique rose, taupe, gray... - and would look absolutely gorgeous cinched around the waist of a flowy dress; and, if wrapped a few times, may make for a lovely seventies-inspired headband. I am completely enamored with these belts. So enamored in fact that I am unable to so much as choose a favorite – I adore them all!

Bits and Bobbins

I have been eyeing this Hemline Stationary Set from Fred Flare for over four months. Finally, with a $50 gift card in hand, I decided to take the plunge, and, on a whim, purchase not one, not two, but five sets of the seamstress influenced parchment. It just arrived, and I could not be more thrilled.

This is the most clever move in terms of office supplies that I have ever seen. Inspired by the dress patterns of the 1950’s and 1960’s that you purchased at the local five and dime, this pack features four separate paper designs ranging from sketched models wearing pillbox hats and white gloves to bouncy skirts and secretary-like ensembles; along with multi-colored envelopes and stickers depicting the necessities of a tailor – buttons, scissors, pins, pumps. This is the type of stationary I could gawk at for hours upon hours. The type of stationary that makes me feel faint of heart. The type of stationary that will be reserved only for special occasions, and special someones.

Purple Passion

I have a gorgeous white summer dress with an asymmetrical hemline that has been collecting dust in my dresser drawer – tags intact – for over three years. It has never been worn, much less seen the light of day since the day I brought it home, and I am convinced that this has to do with accessories; or, rather, lack thereof. I believe that what this dress needs is a bag that will provide an undeniably bright, passionate burst of color that will make it pop. A bag that will turn heads, and make the eyes of passersby bulge in awe. Luckily, I have found the perfect one for the job. Gryson’s Tutu Double Zip in Purple is equal parts wearable and versatile. Reminiscent of the Balenciaga City Bag (a bag that, to this day, I covet and would snatch up in a second if the price was right), the Tutu Double Zip is just as smart as it is lovely. Featuring enough pockets to make me giddy, a removable strap, and metal silver hardware, this is just the purse to accompany my summer frock as it makes its debut to the world. Sure, it’s a bit high in price ($955 to be exact), but a girl can certainly dream; can’t she?

Smitten Saturday

♥Extra-Long Necklaces There was a time when I would never wear jewelry. Now, I can hardly bring myself to leave the house if not decorated with necklaces, rings, bracelets...These are not subtle pieces, mind you. These are statement pieces – disco ball-inspired cocktail rings, charm bracelets that jingle and jangle when you walk (or wave), and, my current personal favorite, extra-long necklaces. Ones that extend way past the bellybutton, like this 44-inch lovely; or this wow-inducing 38-inch wonder. I have worn one every single day this week, and I think I'll do the same next week.

♥Yogurt Passion On Tuesday a friend at work brought me a quartet of yummy Yogurt Passion flavors – coffee, plain, passion fruit, and taro. It was 7:00 in the morning, and I ate it all. It’s not like an ice cream/frozen yogurt type texture. It’s more like a tart sorbet that is completely addicting. And now it is no more. I mean, the shop is still open, but it’s over 60 miles away from my house, so I will never again have the chance to savor its scrummy goodness. I wonder if they would think me crazy if I requested that they ship it to me. I would be willing to pay top dollar!

♥Razzle Zazzle I don’t think it’s possible to find business cards as cute as the ones on Zazzle. I ordered these, which arrived just last week, and they are the most divine things in creation. Now I’m trying to figure out how I will muster up the courage to part with them – they’re too cute!


♥Double Trouble I have a crush (no, not on a boy – at least not this week), but on two-tone shoes. They are sophisticated. They are chic. And they are dying to be a part of my shoe collection. Not only do these Dolce & Gabbana’s have bows, but I can actually picture the original flapper – Zelda Fitzgerald – trotting down Park Avenue with them adorning her ballet-weary feet. These cute little numbers from Victoria ’s Secret are mary-janes (!) and reminiscent of a pair that I saw Lauren Conrad wearing with distressed skinny jeans and a button-down oxford. A pair that has laced each of my dreams ever since. And these...well, these I can actually walk in without breaking my neck. Besides, they're kind of adorable.

♥Platinum Nail Polish I use Pure Ice: 611 Platinum Nail Polish and it's spectacular. I only have to touch it up once a week, and it's the most decadent blend of snowy white and sparkly silver. The color goes with everything and has such a pretty shimmer. Plus, it looked utterly irresistible paired with my hematite, rhinestone-encrusted cocktail ring. What's not to love?

♥Mail Call If you tell me that you don’t like getting mail, I’ll never believe you. There is nothing more perfect than getting magazines in the mail. Just yesterday, after days of believing that someone else had received my May 2009 issue of Teen Vogue, it finally appeared. It’s a little disheartening that the issue is thinner than usual (first Domino disappears, now Teen Vogue is shrinking?!) but a delightful delivery nonetheless.

Maybe it's my lack of interest in geology, but even after that explanation, I truly have no idea what melange means; I do know one thing, however, I'm desperately infatuated with these Melange Rings from my new favorite addiction Darby Scott. The Smoky Quartz Melange reminds me of a strong, caffeine-filled espresso, while the Garnet Melange is reminiscent of a rich red wine; yet either one has the power to transform your outfit with just one look. I'll take them both, please!

Bank On It

I need to stop spending money. Putting it away in banks isn’t helping much thanks to two little things called ATM cards and checks. So I thought a different method may be of more use. Piggy banks. Sure, they’re slightly childish, and a little tempting due to the fact that they’re so accessible. But, if you buy one that’s super cute – like all of these – refraining from swiping a little cash from your stash would be a breeze. After all, who could take a hammer to something as sweet, delicate, dainty, and adorable as these little banks?

Now that I have spotted the Piggy Bank Collection from Pottery Barn Kids, I’m unsure as to how I ever survived all of these years without one of these little oinkers taking up space in my bedroom. These are such a tres chic way of saving money; popping up in classic colors such as white with black polka dots, or pink with white polka dots. I have already decided to spring for the Jumbo Pink with White Polka Dots as it is quite possibly the piggy bank of my dreams.

Do you ever get a happy feeling just from looking at an inanimate object? For some reason, that’s exactly how I feel when I look at this Unique Sitting Spot Yorkie Farm Pig from Piggy Bank of America. The expression on his face is just so cheerful and happy-go-lucky that I can’t help but feel absolutely cheerful just from gazing at him. There are also pink rhinestones dotting her body, as well as silver crown motifs. Oh yeah, and she has eyelashes. Enough said. This could be the piggy bank version of myself.

What better reason to keep a piggy bank than for saving money for those rainy days when all you feel like doing is spending a little cash on something that will warm you from your head to your toes – even if it’s just a fancy cup of coffee?
