Sunday Steals: Rebecca Minkoff Supernova Stud Devote Handbag for Less

Darlings, to your left you will find Rebecca Minkoff’s stellar Supernova Stud Devote Handbag, the very same design seen dangling from the arm of Molly Sims, Lauren Conrad, and Whitney Port; to your right you will find the haute High Fashion Handbags Studded Shopper with Buckles.

While the High Fashion Handbags pretty is constructed out of manmade materials as opposed to the true leather of the Minkoff marvel; for just $39.90, in comparison to the petrifying $695.00 price tag of Rebecca’s ravishing tote, it is every bit as satisfying to the handbag collection of the frugal fashionista – and allows for the budget babe to pick up all three colors (black, cognac, and red) for under $120.00!

Are you having a tightwad moment darlings, or are you plagued with a craving to splurge?

Fashionably yours!

Thrifty Thursday: Dolce & Gabbana Mesh Overlay Dress for Less

Kitty cats, obviously it should come as no surprise that lace will forever be synonymous with ladylike musings; leather will always invoke thoughts of rebellious behaviors; silk and satins will be viewed as shimmering seductresses; and tulle, with its constant appearance in the world of ballet, will eternally make one want to get jiggy with it upon sight. But we are forgetting one texture that far too often is overlooked, yet is utterly essential in some shape or form within the fashionista’s closet; and that, dolls, is mesh.

While certainly not allocated in the design world as much as it could be, the minute open spaces found upon the net-inspired material is a playful way to coquettishly show off a little skin without being overtly flamboyant; making it the perfect solution to adding a bit of cheekiness to your cosmopolitan air. And truly, I imagine there is no better way to work it in to one’s wardrobe than via Dolce & Gabbana’s Mesh Overlay Dress.

Ever so slightly reminiscent of the black and white stripes covering the bodies of graceful zebras, the Mesh Overlay Dress combines two decadent textures into one blissful design by covering a solid black corset dress displaying a sweetheart neckline with an overlay of mesh, which serves as a backdrop to thick stripes that create an effect not unlike that of the sun’s rays, making the wearer radiate beauty from the moment she enters the room, until the very second she departs.

Let’s be truthful darlings, shall we? As members of the fairer, genteel gender, we are already aware of the fact that pieces with such capabilities do not come into one’s life on a daily basis. When you unearth a design which harbors the ability to create such wonderment and buzz around your person there is one thing, and one thing only to do…buy! And that is precisely what I would be doing if the $645.00 price tag and my on-the-verge-of-exceeding-the-credit-limit of my AmEx weren’t standing in the way. Luckily, there’s Nasty Gal.

So it lacks the exposed zipper and slit adorning the back of the Dolce & Gabbana gem; but for $78.00, Nasty Gal’s Showgirl Bustier Dress is a chic compromise that won’t leave you broke. In fact, you may just be able to snatch up a pair of feisty footwear to go with your new frock!

Now the question remains…will you be thrifty, or suckered into putting on your spendthrift cap?

Fashionably yours!

Tightwad Tuesday: Alexander Wang V-Neck Dress for Less

Darlings I’m quite tired of hearing that music inspires fashion and vice versa. Yes, I know that the tunes tantalizing our eardrums are extremely relevant in helping us to decide what our look du jour will be, or even what our desired style will mirror; but it is not just music that serves as an inspiration board to our wardrobe. If Marie Antoinette taught us anything, it is that food is just as much of a muse to the contents of one’s closet as the strains of a symphony. It is a mood regulator which plays a part in the hues we drape over our form; the textures swishing seductively around our bodies; and the desired fit that accouters our derrieres on any given day. For Marie Antoinette it was hoop skirts and petticoats in pastel shades reminiscent of that found upon dainty cupcakes; for yours truly it is draped cashmere and coffee a la Alexander Wang’s V-Neck Dress.

Go ahead my loves; label it as completely off the wall if you’d like. It may seem slightly outlandish, but the truth of the matter is that the neutral coffee and noir shades mingling side by side upon the V-Neck Dress is an inviting duo that proffer the same type of warmth to the wearer as a steaming mug of hot coffee would.

Coffee-colored wool jersey sporting a plunging v-neck (the very perfect location for a pretty pendant necklace to peek through!) converges with black gauze proudly displaying a teasing tattered hemline which comes across as more playful and haut monde than sloppy and hot mess; while a black elasticized belt about the waist breaks up the monotony of colors, and assists in defining one’s waist. All whilst establishing a draped ruching evocative of the frocks worn by the Grecian Goddesses of years passed, of course.

But perhaps the most stunning attribute is the large keyhole opening in the back which allows your skin to play a coy game of peek-a-boo with the world at large.

Sadly, as much as I wish it weren’t true, the V-Neck Dress is nothing more than a far-off daydream flirting with my imagination – or so the $805.00 cost leads me to believe. Hence the reason why I am inviting ModCloth’s I Love Love Dress to become a part of my enchanted existence.

While lacking the pleats adorning the bust, and slightly slouchy design of the V-Neck Dress; at $67.99, ModCloth’s I Love Love Dress is a wallet-friendly solution to one’s style woes.

Are you having a tightwad moment darlings, or are you plagued with a craving to splurge?

Fashionably yours!

Double Trouble

I’ve always been the good girl; but such a title gets boring after awhile. Sometimes you just need to break loose; to show a wild side; to embrace the troublemaker lying in wait underneath that pasty skin of yours. To do so, however, seems completely out of the question. Preposterous, in fact! After all, how on earth do you go from being the good girl to the bad girl at the drop of a hat? Well…with two-finger rings, perhaps. Cast your big, single baubles to the wayside, kittens; it’s time for a little double trouble!

Bijules “Gully Ring 14K Gold” Ladies, whether we like it or not, as females we’re viewed as being as delicate as flowers, as sweet as candy, and as fragile as porcelain dolls – even if we’re none of the above. Does it really matter? Certainly not! Let’s embrace these titles, and pay tribute to the glory of being a girl by wearing it loud and proud by means of a fluttery, feminine, dainty little symbol that represents all of the above and so much more; like Bijules’ Gully Ring 14K Gold. Slide the sparkly street savvy piece onto two fingers and allow the form of a tweeting temptress to roost primly upon your hand. My heart soars just gazing upon the fetching feathered creature!

Anna Sheffield “Arrow Two Finger Ring” Ouch! I’ve just been hit by Cupid’s arrow; or rather, my jewelry drawer has. Anna Sheffield’s Arrow Two Finger Ring is quite possibly the most daring, yet divine accessory I have laid eyes on in quite some time, courtesy of its ability to pierce your heart with a mere glance, yet retain an unbeatable daintiness via the demure detailing – silver and dorado hued Swarovski crystals along the body of the arrow. While the two-finger style makes the piece appear harsh and rough and tumble, the arrow actually provides a very girlish, ethereal-like quality that is both charming and romantic in a very whimsical manner. Looking for the perfect trinket to go with everything? You’ve found it.

Erica Anenberg “Aquamarine Twosome Ring” Brass knuckles have always been a source of controversy; an untouchable that makes people uneasy. That, however, was in the past; here we are in the year 2009, and brass knuckles have received a very friendly, fashion-forward update courtesy of Erica Anenberg’s Aquamarine Twosome Ring. The 14K yellow gold sits tough over two fingers; whilst a dual strip of aquamarine crystals dance upon the surface emitting a glittering sparkle that is downright blinding. Slip your digits in on your way out for a girls’ night and you’ll leave a trail of envious whispers in your wake!

AnomalyJewelry “Snake 2 Finger Ring” I’ll be truthful…snakes have always intrigued me. Not real, live ones – those scare the living daylights out of me. But snakes in Greek mythology, and even more so on accessories have always caught my attention; therefore, I’m convinced that AnomalyJewelry’s Snake 2 Finger Ring was crafted with my jewelry collection in mind. Two snakes – one light, one dark – intertwine with one another across the sterling silver ring; a virtual adjacency between good and evil. Swarovski crystals form the glittering eyes that gaze out at the world; while a natural oxidization process keeps the serpentine duo embellishment from ever losing their individuality. It’s a creation that bridges the gap between elegance and crudeness. Just remember mes chéris, “he’s a cold-hearted…snake.”

ATHD “The Golden Spooning Fingers Double Knuckle Ring” Dolls, two things a girl can never be without: accessories adorned with florals or filigree. The Golden Spooning Fingers Double Knuckle Ring by ATHD fulfills both wardrobe staples courtesy of the vintage etchings found emblazoned across the exterior, a glamorous garnish that lends a Victorian ambiance to the objet d’art. Crafted out of entirely recycled materials, the ornamentation is actually an antique copper spoon handle that has been soldered to a brass ring base then spritzed with 14K gold plating. The end result is a sparkling curio that is high fashion, fun, and 100% eco-friendly!

Are you ready for a dose of double trouble, darlings?

Lampin' It Up

The Hamptons: A luxurious east coast summer hideaway frequented by the elite.
Lampin’: A term coined by Kanye West to describe the unproductive moments that plague us when we’re in the throes of relaxing and chilling out – “Said she’s just lampin’, chillin’ on campus.”

Mix the two terms together and you have The Lamptons Hoody – a tres chic piece by East Hampton’s Blue&Cream, a shop that specializes in creating comfort by combining urban style with the ritz, glitz, and glamour of the quaint locale.

Now, it is not like me to get entirely worked up over a sweatshirt or, in this case, hoodie; but I have been utterly obsessed with The Hamptons since I was nothing more than a knee-high tot toddling along in tutus and tap shoes. So at the sight of this Lamptons Hoody, I could do nothing more than gape at all of its comfy, cozy, and oh-so adorable glory.

The Lamptons adds an urban flavor to the quaint seaside resort town that is often viewed as being pompous, pretentious, and posh. It blackens a pristine white wall found inside one of the sprawling mansions. It sprouts gold spots and wild weeds within the perfectly lush green grasses that grow along the outskirts of the castle-like residences which receive the same tender, love, and care as a bawling infant. It serves as the object behind the corroding, rotting, peeling, and discoloration that overwhelms the pretty white picket fences standing primly in front of each immaculately kept front porch. But, better yet, it adds a sense of street style to your wardrobe that you would be unable to achieve with any other piece of its kind.

My current cravings include the subtle grey and sophisticated black – two colors that will work well with anything in my wardrobe; though I would be more than willing to take the purple, pink, blue, red, or green offerings home if given the opportunity.

This is my chance to get in touch with the Hamptons-dwelling honey hiding deep within my soul. A single occasion created just for those unproductive moments I long for; when I can be the chick chilling in the background while everyone else is catering to their inner worker-bee. All I need is a Lamptons Hoody, and yes, I’ll be lampin’ it up with the best of them!

I Want Candy Giveaway

L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad Nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts is guilty of one thing – never straying from her comfort zone. She refuses to tread unfamiliar waters; preferring to stay within the confines of a familiar safety net, and, though she’s an attractive natural blonde, thinks of herself as a tried and true “plain Jane.” But a new location is going to change all that.

Los Angeles is a place of bronzed beauties all vying for a shot at stardom, so it seems unlikely that the jittery Jane would select such a spot to call her new home; but she’s convinced that La-La Land is the perfect place to make a new name for her. And with her BFF Scarlett Harp by her side, she has the confidence to take the plunge.

Scarlett and Jane have been tight seemingly forever; so there’s no question in Scarlett’s mind that moving to Los Angeles from the quiet Santa Barbara is just the change the two of them need. She’ll have the opportunity to attend the University of Southern California, and finally experience city life firsthand. But LA isn’t necessarily all it’s cracked up to be.

The dingy hole-in-a-wall apartment that the two girls call home is anything but charming – Jane’s term for the place – and the expense of living...well, it leaves a lot to be desired. So when Jane and Scarlett find themselves at celebrity hotspot Les Deux one night, hobnobbing with the rich, powerful, and beautiful, they can’t help but be thrilled. And when they meet TV producer Trevor Lord, they’re convinced that they’ve hit the jackpot. Especially when they’re offered the chance to star in L.A. CANDY, a reality TV show that follows their every move – no matter how embarrassing.

Jane takes to her new celebrity status much better than her red hot roommate Scarlett. As an intern to Fiona Chen, a demanding yet sought-after event planner to the elite, Jane finds herself tossed into a celebrity-fueled existence brimming with lavish parties, to-die-for clothes, and pretty prima donnas. As if that weren’t enough to have any girl floating on cloud nine, Jane is now occupying a luxurious apartment, and has snatched herself a cute new friend (and secret crush) in the handsome Braden – a relationship that leaves Scarlett feeling like a third wheel.

But not everything is peachy keen in the world of reality. The staged so-called spontaneous moments can be awkward, and being poked and prodded by a camera crew as they attempt to wire you up with mini microphones is less than glamorous. Of course, sometimes you have to take the good with the bad when you want to live the sweet life.

Lauren Conrad has worn many hats over the years...fashion designer, reality TV star, intern at Teen Vogue, cover girl. Perhaps none, however, have been as influential as her foray into fiction; or as long-awaited. I read the first tale in the expected trio (and loved every minute of it), now you can too.

Café Fashionista has two copies of L.A. Candy up for grabs courtesy of HarperTeen. One of them could be yours.

For two (2) entries, Twitter about this giveaway, and leave a comment on this post between now and Thursday, July 2, 2009 at midnight PST with your Twitter URL.

I will randomly pick two names out of a hat (who knows, one may be yours!), and announce the winner on Friday, July 3, 2009. It’s the perfect guilty-pleasure, gossip-filled tale for a day at the beach; trust me. Good luck everyone!

I Love Lucy

I love a bag that can go from day to night in five seconds flat. I love a bag that is classy and chic, yet cute and comfortable. I love a bag that can be wined and dined with a frilly cocktail dress or pushed here and there with a button-down and skinny jeans at an Alice + Olivia sample sale. I love a bag that is multifaceted and full of personality. I love a bag that calls out to me from afar. Which is precisely why I love the CC Skye Lucy bag.

Lucy is unlike anyone I’ve ever met before. She is not a satchel, nor a clutch, but a fabulous double-handled braided beauty that is edgy yet engaging all in one breath. Her slick leather frame is embellished with eye-catching 18K gold-plated corners that twinkle and shimmer in the sunlight – a CC Skye exclusive additive that is addicting for the sparkle-obsessed shopper. Her little gold nameplate proclaiming ‘CC Skye’ is reminiscent of the custom-made titles sitting on the desks of power lawyers. And her celestial gold screw-head hardware – the very same that can be found on CC Skye’s jaw-droppingly beautiful bracelets – adds a lovely contrast to the many bubbly colors she can be found in.

There’s the black that will work with everything in your wardrobe. The perky pink that draws out your playful side. A breathtaking blue that brings the waters of the Virgin Islands to mind. A winter white that I can’t help but wish for. Even a magical mustard just perfect for fall.

"Lucy! I’m home!" And head over heels in love.

Give Me Lauren Moshi or Give Me Death!

Sometimes a designer just grabs your attention, and captures your interests in the creations they put on the market. To me, that designer is brother sister design duo Lauren Moshi. Their wild kingdom prints just make me...wild. I was one of those kids who always loved taking trips to the San Diego Wild Animal Park and San Diego Zoo. In fact, I still love outings to those very places. It’s a trip that gives you a free pass to wear ratty flip flops and an embarrassing fanny pack with wild abandonment. A time to toss all fashion sense to the wind and just have a good time. Perhaps this is why Lauren Moshi means so much to me. They conjure up memories of fun, fabulousness, and...flamingos!

I suppose I have to thank Lauren Conrad for my discovery of Lauren Moshi’s designs. If it weren’t for me seeing her wearing that gray elephant tank a mere two months ago, I may have missed this wonder. Since then I have followed her work, and realized that many of the clothes draped upon various celebrities that I was admiring over the past few months were made by none other than Lauren Moshi herself. For instance, the little swing dresses. The roaring tiger tees. The sophisticated seahorse hoodies. Even the thorny rose tank.

There's just something so cheery. So delightful. So...animalistic about her designs - even the ones that just depict headband-wearing hippies, and metallic motorcycles. Forgive me for being dramatic, but...give me Lauren Moshi or give me death!

A Fashion Forward Day

Okay, very rarely do I spot an outfit on a celebrity which I adore so much that I just have to try to mimic it. But from the moment I saw Lauren Conrad’s outfit last week, I just knew that I had to have a similar one for myself.

The Lauren Moshi elephant tank. The black fringe boots. The leggings. The Chanel purse. Everything just screams fabulous. There is not one bad thing to say about this outfit; it is, in the words of Mary Poppins, "practically perfect in every way."

Of course, being on a college student’s budget, I can’t be expected to have the ability to go out and spend a fortune in cash on just one outfit. So, the result is the outfit that I am wearing right now. One that I believe would do Lauren Conrad herself proud; all courtesy of Wet Seal.

Asymmetrical Tiger Tunic - $18.50. The sleeves are ¾ with button details. The print is vibrant, without being too “look-at-me.” As I’m wearing this outfit at work right now, I thought that the asymmetrical cut was a little too dramatic for the office, so I simply pinned up the side to make it look more like a t-shirt.

I skipped the leggings, and opted for black skinny jeans that have been collecting dust in my closet for the past couple of months. The effect is just as amazing, but provides a little more coverage than transparent, paper-thin leggings would. Though leggings would have provided much more flexibility, as we all know.

Tiered Fringe Boot – $14.75. I was worried that these boots would provide very little tread, so I hemmed and hawed over actually purchasing them, but for $14.75, I absolutely couldn’t resist. I’m glad that I didn’t. These boots are beyond comfortable, and completely worry-free when walking. While the traction isn’t that of a tennis shoe, it’s definitely good enough for walking – and speed-walking – around. FYI: Just for the record, the color may look dark brown in the picture, but they are actually black.

I paired the ensemble with an oversized black patent leather tote that I picked up on sale just before Christmas; and, to make up for my lack of Chanel – and to cover up a low neckline – I tossed on this adorable Star Print Scarf - $9.50. The silver threading throughout the scarf really adds a lot of depth to the entire ensemble that is simply irresistible, if I do say so myself.

The result? A very fashion forward day that will go down in my personal fashion favorites style file.

Fashionably yours!

If Loving Scarves Is Wrong, I Don't Want to Be Right

The past twenty years have been dominated by me attempting to avoid having to wear a scarf, no matter how low the temperatures dropped. Suddenly, I'm clamoring to wrap the chic accessory around my neck even in the warmest of weather. Why? They're my new obsession.

Scarves add a little extra oomph to basically everything in your wardrobe. Wear a bright colored scarf (like Gossip Girl's little Jenny Humphrey - aka Taylor Momsen - here) with a tough motorcycle jacket, and you instantly add a little girly glam to your outfit.

Toss one on with knee-high boots and skinnies (like Hills fashionista Lauren Conrad), and you're ready for a night out on the town.

Or just do what I and a handful of your favorite celebrities do whenever they leave the house - toss one on over a plain t-shirt to instantly add a little contrasting texture and volume to your look of the day.

It's no wonder the always chic Audrey Hepburn had them on hand whenever she needed a little clothing pick-me-up. They are the perfect way to accessorize, and keep your wardrobe looking fresh.

And, contrary to popular belief - and the Los Angles Times article You need a PhD to tie a scarf (something I believed to be true until a few weeks ago) - when you're armed with a Love Quotes neck accessory (like half of Hollywood), the last thing you need is a PhD - just two free hands and a little imagination will do! If only they weren't so expensive, I'd have a closet full of them - one in each color available to accommodate every mood, item of clothing, or whim. Hey, for the instant splash of color and style they provide, they're well worth it!

Fashionably yours!
