Hi, I Adore You...

Adoring: Charming toppers with rustic flare that look as if they’ve been borrowed from the boys – specifically Maison Scotch’s Long Sleeve Chambray Shirt; Flouncy skirts with whimsical, watercolor-inspired prints a la American Apparel’s Floral Chiffon Double-Layered Shirred Waist Skirt. Le parfait piece for a day spent pirouetting through fields of flowers, n'est-ce pas?; Pretty platforms in caramel hues, like Frye’s Kara T Strap Platform Sandals; Classy carryalls with enchanting equestrian touches, like the hook-and-eye clasp and gold hardware found upon CC SKYE’s Annie Hall Cross Body Bag; Pastel polishes which serve as the perfect accompaniment to sky-high peep-toe sandals – specifically OPI’s Do You Lilac It?; Forever 21’s Loving Heart Ring in Silver/Peach. Forget about your sleeve, lovers; the time has come to wear your heart on your finger!; Cupcake Kit by Chronicle Books via Cambria Cove. In the words of Anne Byrn, “When you look at a cupcake, you’ve got to smile.”

Smitten Saturday

Charmed, I’m Sure… My loves, the only thing truly better than pretty accessories is pretty accessories that harbor good luck. Charms with the ability to protect one from evil, and give the wearer a sprinkling of supernatural powers that put one in complete control. No, we are not talking about the inhumane rabbit’s foot so often seen dangling from the sterling silver keys kept in one’s pocket; nor are we discussing the clichéd horseshoe or four-leaf clover pendants. Rather, the accessories in question are the glittering amulets and talismans crafted by A Peace Treaty, as part of their Sunari Collection.

Mimicking the aesthetics of ambrosial jewelry found littering the tables of outdoor bazaars found in the Middle East; each A Peace Treaty pretty contributes a touch of ethnicity to one’s look du jour making it a cinch to embrace this season’s tribal trend. I myself am swooning over ACHIN, TALOGAN, NAHRIN, and KONDUZ – all of which retain a sense of out of this world elegance in their designs. Which A Peace Treaty trinket is calling out to you, kittens?

Bite Me! You are all already quite well-versed in my devotion to cupcakes that are just as cute as they are scrummy; thus, I will not bore you with the back story of my adoration for what I like to refer to as cutecakes. I don’t, however, have any qualms about introducing you to the new object of my foodie affection…Baked By Melissa.

Darlings I know I’m not the only one who is ready to try something new once I have savored the flavor of an item that is downright yummy after a singular bite. It is not that I am one who wastes considerable amounts of food; rather, I merely like to enjoy as many variations as humanly possible. And in the world of cupcakes, the flavors are endless leaving one unable to select just one to indulge in; Baked By Melissa is the answer to such dessert-inspired woes. No longer must one choose between Cinnamon or Red Velvet. Baked By Melissa serves up bite-sized cupcakes in nine yummy flavors – S’Mores, Tie-Dye, Mint Chocolate Chip, Cinnamon, Cookies & Cream, Cookie Dough, Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Cup, and Peanut Butter & Jelly – giving you the ability to forgo choosing one over another, and simply allowing one to try all nine. I’m curious to know, my love…what’s your favorite cupcake flavor?

When Did I Buy That? Kitty cats, though I try more than you can imagine to monitor my spending, and keep track of each and every item I buy – from miniscule packs of gum to the Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Ankle Wrap Wedge Sandals that topped my need-it-want-it-gotta-have-it list for months; there are still times when I find myself gazing into my closet and asking…When did I buy that? It is moments like this that make me wish I had taken a cue from Kate Bingaman-Burt, and simply doodled minute pictures of every single purchase I made over the years, then published them within a book like Kate’s gem Obsessive Consumption: What Did you Buy Today?

Chockfull of colorful scrawls depicting everything from Coke cans to quench thirst and fans to keep cool; to issues of Teen Vogue for expanding one’s fashion knowledge and ambrosial black owl earrings essential to any girl’s jewelry collection, Obsessive Consumption follows Kate’s purchases over a period of three years, effortlessly displaying just how much we are buying – oftentimes without even realizing it – in a playful volume that doubles as an easy breezy beach read or clever coffee table book! Tell me dolls…what did you buy today?

What were you smitten with this week?

What if...?

“Money isn’t everything. It’s just most everything.”
Nica Clark

My residence would no longer be on the West Coast; rather, I would dwell within a historic three-story brownstone in Park Slope. From external appearances, my humble abode would resemble the other buildings on the block; but upon entry, you would be welcomed into a world of pink.

Pink side tables and plush chaise longues trimmed in gold would complement the pristine white walls. The hardwood floors would receive a fresh sprinkling of pink glitter each morning to make the place sparkle; and tiers of fresh-baked cupcakes would sit atop sterling silver trays littered throughout the large space. From the ceilings would hang long necklaces, each one acting as a miniature chandelier; and each room would harbor a life-size bubblegum machine, complete with twinkling lights. But no sweets would be found within these contraptions; rather, in their place would be brightly colored Rachel Leigh Gumball Rings. All one need do is insert a mere twenty-five cents and out would pop a blissful, bubblegum-inspired bauble to sit pretty on your pointer finger! But the true piece de resistance would be the room dedicated to Luella. On their way out, all visitors would be welcome to select a pair of Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Luella Zip Wedge Sandals to take home with them for keeps. After all, every girl deserves a little Luella in their life.

Darlings, if money weren’t an object, how would your life be different? What would you buy? Where would you live? What would you do? Come on kitty cats; I’m dying to know!

Smitten Saturday

Pretty, Pretty Princess It was ages ago that I came to the realization that I was leading an incorrect existence. I was not meant to go through the motions of a normal, everyday, regular human being; rather, I was destined to be a royal. The ruler of some far-off country where everyone wears dreamy dresses and eats cotton candy for dinner. Once that conclusion was happened upon, I knew it was only a matter of time before my parents, the King and Queen, would rescue me from my boring, mundane lifestyle. Sadly, years have passed, and they have yet to arrive; therefore, I believe the time has come to take matters into my own hands. My first order of business? Scooping up a Chiefs of Enchantment headpiece.

Part Roman Empire influenced laurel wreath, part Pretty, Pretty Princess tiara, the Chiefs of Enchantment head accessories are a fantastical way to add a little imagination and whimsy to your everyday wardrobe. Proffering charming titles, and elegant aesthetics; it’s truly impossible not to fall under their bewitching spell. The Mia, The Raven, The Sharfeathered, The Lan, and, my personal favorite The Erika (it’s fate, don’t you think?). Which Chiefs of Enchantment beauty is your favorite?

Sock It to Me Darlings, don’t you ever find yourself feeling sorry for them? Please don’t play games with me now; you know precisely what I’m talking about…missing socks! They keep our tootsies tantalizingly cozy in the winter months, then we are ungracious enough to allow them to lose their snuggly sidekick during trips to the Laundromat wherein we arrive with two socks in tow, only to return home with one, finding ourselves left to wonder not only where the other has gone off and disappeared to; but what we are to do with the lone one left behind in our possession. Not anymore however! At least not with Inklore’s Missing Sock Bucket harboring a little hidey hole in our homes.

No longer are we to feel sorrowful for our newly-single socks, for the Missing Sock Bucket provides them with shelter until they are reunited with their long-lost partner in crime. It’s an adorable way to keep track of our missing treasures while saving us money at the very same time. After all, constantly having to buy socks can become quite the expense after a period of time! Ready to admit your singletons to the Home for Missing Socks, kittens?

Happy, Happy Unbirthday Party! Cupcakes and fairytales and tea parties and surprises; kitty cats you all know me well enough to realize that yes, these are a few of my absolute favorite things! The very pieces in life that put a spring in my step, a smile upon my mark Sweet Talk slathered lips, and a hole in my pocket (or rather, haute handbag) for having spent so much money on all of the above. Nevertheless, there is no ending in sight, for I refuse to deprive myself of the finer things in life; instead choosing to indulge in the miscellany that make me the happiest, and one of the items in question is…Laurel Avenue Bakery’s Tea Party Curio Box!

Inspired by my beloved Alice in Wonderland, the Tea Party Curio Box comes chockfull of all of the bits, pieces, odds, and ends required to throw a scrummy tête-à-tête by yourself or with a gaggle of your fabulously accoutered girlfriends! Packaged in a petite box with the words “We’re All A Little Mad Here” scrawled on the outside, and garnished with a blue ribbon just like the one dressing up Alice’s flaxen locks; the Tea Party Curio Box is loaded with pretty Petit Fours, Cheshire Cat Macarons, Unbirthday Cupcakes, “Taste Me” Cookies, Candied Pistachios, and Curiously Sweet Mushrooms. The only thing missing is the Mad Hatter himself, of course! Who wants to come to my Unbirthday Party, dolls?

What were you smitten with this week?

You Know I Love You...

Kitty cats, you all know how much I adore surprises. In fact, they rank right up there with my obsession for all things glitterific; which is why I had to share this petite present from my bloggy friend Meream of Bored & Crafty as part of her Scraplink Saturday series.

I "met" Meream months ago through a mix of her fabulous posts on All Women Stalk, and her sweet as chocolate-truffle-center-cupcakes-from-NYC's-Magnolia-Bakery comments on my daily posts, and have adored her ever since. Only a few short weeks ago did I so much as discover that she had her own blog (a must for you DIY-ers who love to get crafty), and now this.

Pink, cupcakes, coffee, glitter, and even one of my all-time favorite Cafe Fashionista quotes...it's quite obvious that Meream knows exactly the way to my heart. You know I love you, darling!

Check out Meream's Cafe Fashionista feature here, and do make Bored & Crafty a daily bloggy visit. It's good for the artistic soul, my loves!

The Haute Hostess Giveaway

Dolls, it should come as no surprise to you that I absolutely adore the smell of fresh-baked desserts; unfortunately I’m a complete disaster in the kitchen, and am downright incapable of whipping them up myself. That, of course, has never stopped me from trying to become the haute hostess that I’ve always longed to be. But alas, my attempts at success have never really come to fruition; yet I am convinced that my luck would change if armed with a sassy weapon…like a cute apron! I can’t help but feel that a pretty apron has the power to completely change one’s culinary skills; to give a girl the confidence to take her cooking capabilities to new heights. And now one (1) of you aspiring chic chefs has the chance to take one of your very own home.

It’s true my loves! Café Fashionista has teamed up with Flirty Aprons to bring one (1) of you lucky lovelies the cuter than cute Women’s Apron Original Frosted Cupcake – a dreamy cupcake-covered, pastel hued pretty that is an absolute must in one’s kitchen!

Smitten Saturday

Savoring Sparkles I’m truly angry at whomever convinced you that sparkles were nothing more than a bit of arts and crafts supplies handed off to wild and crazy kindergartners to keep them quiet in between nap and snack time. That person was sadly mistaken, loves! The truth of the matter is that sparkles can be either here or there. One moment they can be dancing in your hair, the next they may be outfitting a favored Gryphon frock. But perhaps my absolute favorite format to savor sparkles is via regal refreshments. That’s right, a beverage that beams brilliantly from its position in a first-rate flute sitting pretty in your cocktail ring embellished hand is almost as important as the shoes adorning your feet, or the clutch clasped tightly in your magnificently-manicured fist. After all, one who looks as stunning as you deserves a pretty drink to accompany her as she wows the room with her presence. As such, accessorize with burbling apple cider, complement your Camilla Skovgaard Chain Sandals with a glittering glass of cranberry juice, and cuddle up with a goblet brimming with white grape juice that will make your jewels beam brighter than you ever thought possible! How will you be savoring sparkles come New Year’s Eve, darlings?

Ribbon Dancer Old habits die hard; or rather, in my case, they rarely die at all! Since I was a teeny, tiny toddler traipsing down the stairs precociously a la Kay Thompson’s Eloise, I have found that the wrapping used to conceal the gifts my family had spent hours choosing just for me was oftentimes more interesting than the gift itself. Specifically, the yards of shimmering ribbon tied daintily around each pleasing package. Throughout the course of the morning, as everyone gathered round the tree to exchange presents, I would spend much of my time hoarding the cast-aside pieces of ribbon, intent on using it to accouter myself with in some way at a more appropriate moment. But why on earth should one waste valuable family time hunting for stunning streamers tossed to the wayside, when you can simply buy blissful ensembles already laced with such a dazzling decoration? ASOS Oversized Belted T-Shirt Jersey Dress is a stunning way to wrap yourself up in all sorts of wonderful even on the most casual of days. One can’t help but feel like a life-size present – and a glamorous one at that! – when adorned in Notte by Marchesa’s Ribbon-Trimmed Silk-Chiffon Dress. Charlotte Russe’s Rose Jacquard Corset receives an extremely feminine fix via the addition of a satin ribbon tie about the waist. And please be prepared for jaws to drop when wearing Forever Unique’s Ribbon & Velvet Trim Dress, for it has the power to hypnotize. Ready to become a card-carrying member of the ribbon dancer brigade, loves?

Fairy Tale I thought about waiting for a cute boy to arrive and sweep me off my feet in the hopes of creating a fairy tale with one another; but no. I suppose I’m not the most patient of individuals; therefore I am taking matters into my own hands and creating a fairy tale all my own via petite holiday-influenced fairy cakes that even Peter’s pal Tinkerbell would approve of. Now, I have told you all time and time again that I am not the most handy person in the kitchen. In fact, in the past two years alone I am guilty of having concocted half-baked banana nut bread, hard as rock sugar cookies, and soupy pumpkin pie; hence the reason why I am leaving it up to the professionals to create the fairy cakes of my whimsical imagination a reality. First I’ll visit Fairy Cakes Bakery to scoop up a dozen of their spicy Pumpkin White Chocolate offerings; next I’ll pick up the Holiday Peppermint Twist from Kara’s Cupcakes as a last farewell to the Christmas season; and to round my fairy cake jaunt up I’ll pay a visit to Cupcake Royale for the cake version of Figgy Pudding, Eggnog, and Candy Cane. Who wants to join me on my fairy tale?!

That’s A Wrap! Darlings it wasn’t me who said it, so stop pointing fingers! It was Vaughn Monroe who first stated in 1945 “Oh the weather outside is frightful…” as the opening bars of Let It Snow. All I am doing is reiterating his proclamation, as I absolutely could not agree more – the weather is frightful; combating it, however, is not. As long as you have a cocoon sweater, that is! Why on earth do you think that wriggling caterpillars emerge from cocoons as full-fledged flittering butterflies? I believe it is due to the fact that there is no more cozy location to hibernate for even a short period of time; which is why it is obvious for optimal warmth and worldliness in your wear, a cocoon sweater is your best bet. Skinny jeans will never be the same again when partnered with Paul & Joe’s Cocoon Sweater in Black which drapes in the most dazzling of ways. Silence & Noise’s Stitch Detail Cocoon Cardigan is an affordable way to retain savoir faire in any situation. And Mason’s Cocoon Sweater in Gray is a playful way to protect your form from the cool chill in the air while looking completely posh. Christmas may be over, but Santa baby, do you think that you could pretty please with a cherry on top drop these last few items down the chimney? I’ll be extra good the whole year through!

What were you smitten with this week?

Cruisin' Cafes: Washington, DC

Given the fact that one of the last things I would find enjoyable to discuss with someone is politics, I find it rather strange that Washington, DC has always hovered about the top of my list for a desired travel destination. I blame my interest of the nation’s capital upon my adoration of cherry blossoms. I really find that no other flower holds the same sort of femininity as the cheerful and demure cherry blossom; and seeing as how so many events within Washington, DC pay tribute to the pretty pink petals, I can’t imagine a more fabulous place to visit – or sip coffee – than the dapper and dashing DC!

Baked & Wired Give me cupcakes or give me death! Darlings, I know it sounds ever so slightly dramatic, but it’s the absolute truth. How one can even fathom getting through the day without a cutecake in tow is simply out of my realm of imagination; and if you’re looking for the best, look no further than Baked & Wired.

Tucked sedately between stuffy ad agencies, office buildings, and architecture firms, Baked & Wired is a hipster breath of fresh air with charming pink-trimmed picturesque windows that overlook a bustling street and pink painted bike which serves as outdoor décor for the location – situated just a stone’s throw away from the Georgetown canals. While the equivalent of a trendy coffee shop decked out in creations by local artists, and sporting humorous inscriptions upon the walls such as “Tip well or we will play Freebird on loop”; iced soy lattes, cappuccinos, and espressos, although addictive in their own way, are not the main attraction. That title is bestowed upon the cupcakes of which are some of the best you will ever savor. Three of my favorite cutecake flavors proffered to customers? Carrot Cake, Pumpkin, and Strawberry…order one of each, and eat them on site – the atmosphere only adds to the yumminess! 1052 Thomas Jefferson Street NW, Washington, DC 20007.

Tryst Coffee House Bar & Lounge There are very few cafes spotting the planet nowadays that have that jazzy, smoky, beatnik bar ambiance that F. Scott Fitzgerald glamorized so many years ago, literally causing me to scour the earth in search of such a place; and I have found it in Tryst Coffee House Bar & Lounge.

As if the name weren’t enough to lure you in, there are two things that will cause you to arrive and never want to leave: the bohemian aesthetic which makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into another era – one in which someone like Bob Dylan will walk in, pull up a stool, pick up a guitar, and begin strumming along mournfully; and the animal crackers. Yes, animal crackers. For each warm drink you order, animal crackers are an adorable accompaniment – and so perfect for dunking! Kitschy retro snacks aside, however, Tryst is a place with personality galore. Stop in with friends for a quirky afternoon full of cappuccinos sipped while sprawled out in overstuffed couches and chairs; or swing by at night for an evening of veggie burgers, beer, and bluesy jazz enjoyed at the bar. Between the brick walls, tin ceiling, and saggy seating you’ll feel inspired to write the next great American novel – or at least read one. 2459 18th Street NW (between N Belmont Road and N Columbia Road), Washington, DC 20009.

Mid City Caffe Mid City Caffe is one of those hidden gems that you don’t seek out to find, but magically stumble upon on accident, and literally feel as if you’ve been transported into a fairytale – in this case, one in which you’re surrounded by the aromas of spice cake, cappuccinos, and cream cheese frosting.

Located above the hot pink painted Miss Pixie’s Furnishings and Whatnot – a virtual smorgasbord of a shop full of whimsical knickknacks that are cheerful, charming, and unique – and just a short walk from the U Street Farmer’s Market, Mid City Caffe is the preemptive location to take a load off at one of the sidewalk tables after a day of shopping; or simply shoot the breeze with a cute boy over lattes made to perfection and topped with ambrosial designs carved right into the foam. Though perhaps the most charming thing about Mid City Caffe is the cramped yet cozy spirit, so ideal for toiling the day away over a laptop in the company of delectable drinks and desserts. Think of me as you devour a sticky cinnamon bun! 1626 14th Street NW, Second Floor (between N Corcoran Street and N R Street), Washington, DC 20009.

Which of these DC cafes would you like to cruise?

Fashionably yours!

Smitten Saturday

Sweet Ride I’ll be honest loves, my lack of a driver’s license has never caused any great pains in my existence. Albeit, having to bum rides off of virtually anyone within a five-foot radius of my person can grow tiring after some time; and thoughts of road trips and escaping my current existence simply by putting the pedal to the metal and driving blindly for a few hours have always had to be put on the backburner, but I’ve survived. With thoughts of one day fleeing to a city where I can peruse public transportation to my heart’s desire, I have weathered the storm, and grown to accept my inability to drive. But Neiman Marcus’ Customized Cupcake Car has me contemplating booking an appointment at the DMV. Sure, there were times when I pictured myself cruising down the highway in a cherry red VW Beetle, Coconut Records blasting on the radio, but even that vibrant daydream didn’t possess the same type of appeal as the sugar-laden sweetness put forth via the Customized Cupcake Car. So it only goes a maximum of 7 MPH, and it’s safer to drive it on sidewalks than through crowded streets; but be truthful here darlings…who could possibly resist driving a giant pink-frosted cupcake around town?

Stain of Love You could say that I was predestined to adore lip gloss. As a child watching Knott’s Landing reruns in the dead of night when my mother was fast asleep and couldn’t stop me from viewing such nonsensical soaps, I fell in love with lip gloss. At the time, I was unaware of the fact that lip gloss existed, however, and simply thought that the characters spent quite a bit of time licking their lips to get that nonstop lustrous shine. Imagine my surprise when I learned, years later, that the magic could be bought in a tiny tube. Ever since this discovery, I have been splurging on flavored tube after flavored tube, constantly searching for the one that will give me the longest lasting wet shine look. But times they are a-changing, mes chéris. As much as I covet a shimmering smooch, I can’t help but love a long-lasting color that looks natural and alluring all at once – a lip stain that makes my pout a little more pretty. It was Drew Barrymore who first piqued my interest in such a product; but Luinae from More Magic Always has given me the nudge I needed to go through with such a cosmetic venture. Now the true test comes about in terms of shades. Should I go natural with CoverGirl’s Outlast Lipstain in Flirty Nude or Coy Coral? Get a little wild with NARS’ Lip Gloss/Lip Stain Duo in either Turkish Delight/Sayonara or Moon Fleet/Indian Red? Or simply try mark’s Glossblossom Ripening Lip Tint for a subtle hint of color? What about you kittens…have you been bitten by the stain of love?

The Mile Thigh Club I did the impossible, dolls. As much as I feigned fear about over the knee boots, I’ve had a magical time with a black suede pair for the last month, and the experience has only made me want to take things a bit further. Over the knee boots still retain the ability to make me goo-goo eyed; but thigh highs are slightly more fierce, and seem the perfect way to make a daring statement, even if you’re simply donning them over skinny jeans. Stuart Weitzman’s footwear has been taunting me for months; but no piece drives me as wild as his Hilo Thigh High Suede Boots. The wide shaft and textures ranging from lace to knits pile one on top of the other in the same fashion as a light and airy Angel Food cake – Vivian Ward, eat your heart out! Then there are the Giuseppe Zanotti Thigh High Flat Suede Boots with Flex Sole which mold to the body like liquid leggings. Dolce Vita’s Taryn Flat Knee Boot give you the opportunity to try thigh-high out; and if it’s too much, simply fold the cuff down to create an over the knee silhouette – if you adore it, however, you have two boots in one. And the vintage leather patchwork adorning LD Tuttle’s The Shaper? Ooh, be still my heart. Are you a card-carrying member of the mile thigh club yet?

Can You Keep A Secret? I make a new discovery practically everyday. Quite often I keep them to myself, the beholder of some magical treasure that only I am aware of; but there are those times when even I find it impossible to keep things quiet. This is one of those moments. Over the past few months I’ve begun to count each and every one of you as a close and personal friend; therefore I think I can trust you all to keep a secret – even one as fashionably fabulous as this. Fashion Confidential. There was a time when I thought FC was another designer shop like Net-A-Porter. A place where I would spend hours poring over items that I longed to purchase, but didn’t have the funds available to do so. I was wrong. Darlings, we spend countless amounts of money purchasing fashion magazines, but now there is one available right at our fingertips that is completely free. The Fashion Confidential magazine is every bit as fabulous as the glossies we flip through while lounging on the couch – only its available Online. Insider fashion information, high-quality photos, and enough designer gossip to keep a grin pasted across anyone’s lips. Just remember, this is between you and me…

What were you smitten with this week?

Fashionably yours!

Favors Fit for a Fairytale

Dolls, I know nearly a month has passed since Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard said “I do”; but the lack of photographs depicting the big day still has me speculating about the sorts of fashionable strides the indie darling took in ensuring that her momentous occasion was one for the record books. Of course, it is not the gown or the guests in which I am interested in. Rather, it is the Wedding Favors.

Given Zooey’s penchant for girly touches like dainty bows, tights, and a mix of ruffles and rosettes, I imagine the favors at her wedding would be just as adorable. In my mind’s eye I see a tower of cupcakes resting upon a lacy white tablecloth, each one sitting primly in its own pristine white Filigree Wrapper. Perched beside each dinner plate, it’s possible that place cards sat cradled in the arms of gilded heart-shaped favors which gave way to flickering tea-lights. Across the aisleway I think it more possible than not that a pile of personalized wedding hot chocolate cocoa mix festooned with kitschy illustrations depicting kissing mugs lay haphazardly within a basket – a sweet farewell to departing guests.

Oui, I have concocted a fairytale filled with visions of charming wedding favors; but really darlings…where is the true harm in that?

What wedding favors do you see in your future?

Fashionably yours!

Smitten Saturday

Stud in the Mud It is my conviction that the exact opposite of a diamond in the rough is a stud in the mud. Oui kittens, it’s time for me to reveal the latest in the world of Café Fashionista obsessions, and that, mes chéris, are leather wrap bracelets embellished with savory studs. There’s something quite gothic about the style that is categorically celestial; a juxtaposition between two worlds – the grandiose of the upper class so carefully portrayed by the opulent leather band, paired with the destitute underworld blatantly depicted via the rough and tumble studding. The end result, mind you, is anything but grungy or offensive; quite the contrary in fact – it’s a fashion that presents itself with swank exclusivity which virtually transforms your wrist into a powerhouse full of pizzazz. Smith by Zoe Chicco’s Black Leather Spike Wrap Bracelet would be a turbulent touch to an ambrosial babydoll. Add a kick of color to your look du jour with Linea Pelle’s Skinny and Shiny Dome Studded Bracelets. Allow Vale’s Leather Studded Wrap Bracelet cast a daring dash of dazzle to your assemblage of accessories. Or simply turn heads with a tough girl Studded Pyramid Cuff Bracelet from Cara Accessories. Now…that’s a wrap; and a studly one at that!

Peace, Love, and Cupcakes Oh kittens, I would so very much love to stuff myself with cupcakes right this very moment. To savor their soft, sugar-laden flesh; and fundamentally bask in the glow of their sweet whipped frosting. But alas, doing so would make it impossible to shimmy into my skinnies, so I must refrain from indulging in their scrummy yumminess and merely admire their pretty persona in quite a different fashion: as stuffed desserts! Please don’t tell me you’ve never heard of them darlings, as anyone who adores cute little cupcakes should be privy to this information; after all, stuffed cupcakes, like their true dessert counterparts are just as divine as the ones served up at Magnolia Bakery – the only thing they’re missing is the calories! This Pixie Dust vanilla-scented felt cupcake is destined to reside on a pristine white nightstand located within the confines of a pastel pink bedroom. I plan on piling dozens of these cherry-topped Handmade Mini Softies on my bed for the cutest sleeping companions ever. A White Frosted Plush Chocolate Cupcake with Pink Rose will be awaiting each and every guest at the next dinner party I throw. And a box of these Tea Party Play Cakes will surely make the ideal get well gift for an ailing friend. Of course, if all this talk of cupcakes has made you hungry, I daresay it would be okay to take a petit nibble at a sugary forbidden treat seeing as how September 21 – 27 is Cupcakes Week – so delight in one (or ten), mes chéris!

Jegging Jive Darlings, you know me for my love of all things denim. My closet is riddled with skinnies in various washes and hues; and, nine times out of ten, you will spot me scurrying down the street in a pair of jeans tucked into knee-high boots, cocktail rings adorning my fingers, my hair trailing flirtily in my wake. As much as I loathe to admit it there are times when jeans simply won’t cut it; moments in life that call for something crafted from a more breezy material, something stretchy that moves and groves with every step you take. I, for one, absolutely refuse to cast aside the look of denim in which I hold so dear for the mere sake of comfort. I am, however, not opposed to a smidgen of compromisation; thus, I am willing to take jeggings out for a little test drive. The Legging Jeans in Anvil Wash by Madewell are, in my mind, treading the fine line between lust and infatuation due to the sheer fact that they look identical to my daily denim accoutrement. It’s impossible to ignore the magnetism of the Twiggy 5 Pocket Legging Jean – the midnight China Doll hue alone is bound to keep the spotlight on you when strutting about in these stunners. The heavy contrasting stitching embellishing Bubblegum’s Stretch Legging Jean contributes a playful pinch to the sleek, body-hugging style. And Levi’s Capital E Legging Jeans? I’m going to be completely candid with you here – they’re my current clothing crush! Ready to do the jegging jive, lovelies?

Crimes of Fashion It’s truly lethal to unleash me in a bookstore. I always manage to find myself in the midst of mischief involving the discovery of new tales, no matter how trite. When fall rolls around, those tales turn to mysteries; cozies that require a thick, cable-knit sweater, a warm fireplace, hot chocolate loaded with pillowy white marshmallows, and a plaid blanket to huddle under for optimal reading. I can’t tell you why my thoughts instantly turn to such stories when autumn arises; but I suppose it has to do with the comfortable, homey feeling such books’ put forth. But no, my most recent Barnes & Noble excursion did not leave me with that same family-centric feeling. Instead I found myself bombarded with the discovery of fashion-focused mysteries – there was Handbags and Homicide and Dying in Style; Raiders of the Lost Corset and Spying in High Heels; even Death By Pantyhose. Who knew there were so many anecdotes depicting crimes of fashion just sitting upon bookstore shelves ripe for the fashionista’s choosing?!

Get the Boot! Someone called me, of all things, “boots” the other day. Can you believe the gall; the insensitivity; the audaciousness for an individual to deem it appropriate to bestow such a title upon me? Neither can I. That said, it truly didn’t bother me in the least for I see it as a befitting alias for myself – someone who wears boots on an almost daily basis (even going so far as to pair them with flirty frocks during the spring and summer months); and when not actually donning them, one can find me gazing upon new styles online or in local shops. The truth of the matter is that my thoughts are quite…consumed with boots. In my mind, they are the most splendrous piece of footwear known to man; which is why I can’t help but to believe that they would also make for a fabulous handbag a la Saskia Marcotti’s Bootbag. An ordinary rubber rainboot is turned into an avant-garde purse simply by puncturing the shaft with a hole which serves as a flawless handle. I’ll take the red, s'il vous plait!

Belle of the Bedroom Ball

Dolls, aren’t you sick of them? Oh, don’t play coy with me; you know exactly what (or, rather, whom) I’m talking about here. Boys! We allow them to sit on the couch for days upon days watching sports of all kinds, yet when we tell them that we want to get dressed up and go out dancing they gripe and groan until we finally back down. Well, I’ve had enough. I refuse to sit around and wait for a cute boy to wine and dine me; which is why you are all cordially invited to a Bedroom Ball. It may sound completely foreign and bizarre to you, and it should, for I just made it up.

A Bedroom Ball, if you must know, is quite like a slumber party, only in place of lace-trimmed teddies and neon-colored nighties there are ball gowns. Loads and loads of ball gowns of all different colors and cuts. But before you splurge, you must learn the stipulations for attendance:

First and foremost, no boys allowed. Unless, of course, we become extremely desperate; at that time we can demand that they come over as long as they are armed with scrummy cupcakes covered in colorful whipped frosting.

No black and white ball gowns. I understand that they are extremely appealing and flattering for most shapes, but we must break the mold, and to do that we need color!

Last, but not least, no gown can go over $50. And darlings no, this isn’t as difficult to achieve as one would think.

I’ve already found my look du jour. Are you ready, loves? It’s…Appropriate Behavior’s Coral Satin One-Shoulder DressSears coupons. Isn’t it luscious?

The color alone has a very feminine flair, but it’s the demure details that make it the true dress of my dreams: a rose appliqué embellishing one shoulder, ruffles flitting about the neckline, a sash that ties into a billowy bow in the back cinching in the ideal empire waist silhouette. On second thought, maybe we should allow boys to attend the Bedroom Ball – this frock is too fabulous to keep hidden!

Don’t forget to R.S.V.P., darlings!

Smitten Saturday

My Buddy So, I have a confession to make. I’m currently harboring a “little” crush on someone at work. He has hair that sticks up in every which direction, is always smiling, and, my personal favorite, wears the most adorable Buddy Holly-inspired glasses. He’s nerdy-cute, and I don’t even know his name. I do, however, know that his retro eyewear has me giddy. Now, whenever I see Buddy Holly frames, I can’t help but think of him. These Shuron Freeway Eyeglasses remind me of when he was singing in the hallway. These remind me of the quick, shy glances we exchanged in the cafeteria. And these make me think of the oh-so casual way he tosses his sweatshirt over his shoulder. I can’t help myself; I would love to make the cute boy, in addition to a pair of these glasses, my buddy!

Panties & Polish Matching your nail polish to your blouse, dress, even your shoes, I have heard of. Matching your nail polish to your skivvies, however? It’s something new to me; yet it piques my interest and makes me want to pull out my wallet. Hanky Panky’s new Signature Lace Low Rise Thong and Polish Set has just made its way to the tip top of my wish list. I plan on reserving the Chai/Bliss Pink offering, which accompanies the blushing Ballet Slipper polish for demure moments that call for something classic and understated; and using the Diva Blue/Coral Reef set featuring a Geranium colored polish that is simply burning up for those days when I’m feeling spicy. Sure, you may be the only one to know that your underthings match your nails; but that’s the fun of it, right?

Ice, Ice Baby I introduced all of you to my gush-worthy 8 7/8 Carat Smokey Quartz & Sky Blue Topaz Sterling Silver Ring on Monday. Since then, I have not taken the beautiful bauble off my finger. It has become a part of me. In fact, I find it difficult to even separate with it long enough to take a shower each day. Thus, due to my passion for the gorgeous gem, I have already begun contemplating my next Ice.com purchase. First up is the 9 Carat Green Amethyst & Black Sapphire Sterling Silver Ring that my blogging pal La C. is lucky enough to call her own; and which reminds me ever so much of one of my favorite types of ice cream – Mint Chocolate Chip! Second is the 9 Carat Rainbow Moonstone and Iolite Sterling Silver Ring. And third is the 6 3/4 Carat Citrine & Smokey Quartz Sterling Silver Ring. Forgive the Vanilla Ice reference, but it’s completely necessary...“Ice, Ice Baby...”

Gingham Girl While many equate tribes of ants with picnics, I find that there is one other thing that should be completely synonymous with the fun gatherings…gingham! It’s a print that can work for the wellie-wearing farm girl, or the stiletto strutting city dweller. Free People’s Picnic Plaid Matador is hands-down my favorite piece. The yellow color (it’s also available in black and red gingham) is summery and fun; but the lace crocheting and drawstring tie in the back, paired with the pintucking in the font give it a sophisticated flair. This pink gingham shirt dress is the perfect toss on for casual days when you’re looking for something light and airy to run around in. This Navy Rockabilly Gingham Cocktail Dress is just sassy enough to wear for a Hamptons-inspired getaway complete with a big straw hat and sunglasses to make you feel incognito. And Betsey Johnson’s Gingham Taffeta Halter Sundress is simply perfect for a retro party. There’s no question about it, I am a Gingham Girl through and through!

Cupcake Craze Vanessa Cantave, Executive Chef of New York City ’s Yum Yum Chefs once said “With cupcakes, everyone can have her own personal dessert. Plus, they’re so cute!” Truer words have never been spoken. And, since I am currently in the mood for a little party, I believe that cupcakes are an essential way to get into the celebratory spirit. Cupcake Royale’s Red Velvet offering looks scrum-diddly-umptious; and the fact that it’s known as the “Scarlet O’Hara of the pastry case” makes me desperate to indulge in one or two. I was given a Black Forest Cake for my sixteenth birthday. Despite my age, when no one was looking I scraped all of the glazed cherries off the top and ate them in one sitting, leaving the rest of the cake behind. Cupcake Café’s Black Forest Cupcake reminds me of that day; plus it gives me the opportunity to indulge in chocolate and cherries without any guilt. And the treats at Dots Cupcakes are just too pretty not to love – I’ll take one of everything!

Twilight Aside from Buffy’s daring dances with vampires as she strived to slay them one by one, I have never been very interested in the blood-sucking beings. But since being introduced to Edward Cullen, all that has changed. I am almost finished with Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight and am adoring every moment of it. There are so many wonderful bits. It takes place in Seattle (a location I am desperate to visit); the writing is lyrical and poetic; and best of all, it features a handsome, rogue vampire by the name of Edward Cullen who has captured my heart. I truly do not care if it’s abnormal; I want to marry a fictional character, plain and simple.

Candy Land

Queen Frostine was always the more elegant and sophisticated character in the Candy Land board game, but I usually found myself eager to play Princess Lolly, as she was sweet, reminded me of gumdrops, and was colorful and kind through and through. Plus, I believe that she would truly appreciate living in the Candy Land inspired house I plan on creating using items from Jellio.

They used to taste like cardboard, and were truly empty calories, but that didn’t stop me from purchasing those dot candies from the corner store when I was younger. Just ripping the rainbow-colored sugar dots from that white sheet of wax paper (which always ended up in your mouth due to the fact that it never truly separated from the candy) thrilled me. Almost as much as the discovery of this Button Bench. The white bench is sleek and modern, but it’s the bright pink, blue, and yellow life-size rubber dots that adorn it which make me hungry for my childhood. Even better is the fact that the dots squish down like a deflated handball when you sit on them, then pop back into original form to add a little three-dimensional flavor to the entire piece.

I’ve always wanted to live in a house upholstered in cupcake material. This Cupcake Seat partly fulfills that dream. The divine chocolate frosting (made out of molded rubber) is lifelike enough to eat, while the selection of cupcake liner colors varies from pink to blue and just about everything in-between. I’ve decided that this would be the most decadent location to flip through Rachael Ray Magazine, watch Food Network marathons, or simply indulge in scrummy desserts. The only thing it needs is a scratch and sniff surface that sends whiffs of sugary frosting into the air whenever you touch it!

Yes, I have mentioned them before, but I simply cannot get enough of these sweet GummiLights. Even if they were simply a room decoration, with no light to expel, they would be one of my favorite items on the planet, but the fact that they double as a lamp makes me eager to make one – or all of them – my very own. If I have to choose just one, of course I’ll go with the pink; but, ideally, I want to take all eight home.

No room is complete without a treasured little table to store fashion magazines on. With that in mind, I have decided that, in keeping with my sweet treats, Candy Land-like theme, this Cupcake Table would do the trick famously. This table reminds me of my childhood dreams where I would wake-up to find a life-size cupcake sitting in my bedroom just waiting to be devoured. Shaped like a giant cupcake liner/wrapper that comes in an assortment of ten colors – orange, red, pink lime green, silver, violet, baby blue, brown, yellow, or metallic silver (I’m sure you know which color I want) – and topped with either frosted or clear glass, this is the type of modern, art deco like piece of furniture that would make your place the talk of the town. Plus, it may just be the ideal hint to your pals as to what you’d like them to bring during their next visit – fresh-baked cupcakes!

Who was your favorite Candy Land character? But, more importantly, how do you think you’d feel living in a sweet treats inspired house?

Moody Judy

I can’t tell whether it’s the fact that the weather has suddenly gotten warmer, making it a necessity to cast my much-beloved chilly weather wear to the depths of my closet, or the realization that my Spring Break is quickly slipping away, and that the return to homework is fast approaching. No matter the cause, I have a case of the “moodies” that I just can’t shake. Luckily I have these things to keep a smile – even if it is, at times, a fake one – in place.

Books about Writers Running Wild in the Twenties.

A wearable rose.

An assortment of picnic baskets to fit every mood, season, or personality.

The ideal skirt for a spring, or summer, fling.

Cupcake making kits with the power to bring out the amateur baker in all of us!

Affordable and adorable cocktail rings.

A guide to the perfect girls' night in.

Socks fit for a wannabe ballerina.

Hey There Cupcake!

That sounds like the cheesiest pick-up line, I know; but it’s actually fully appropriate for the most adorable. Most delicious. Most fabulous clutch on the planet. The Judith Leiber Limited Edition Strawberry Cupcake Clutch is possibly the most wonderful creation in handbags since Chanel brought the quilted purse to life. I fell in love with it the day Katy Perry arrived at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards with the yummy accessory in tow, and haven’t stopped thinking of it since. It’s splendidly sweet, and possesses all the cuteness of a cupcake without the empty calories!

A Cupcake Affair

"Cupcakes are the perfect food - they're darling to look at, you don't need utensils, and you don't have to share."
Mia Bauer, co-owner of New York City's Crumbs Bake Shop

Teen Vogue is always full of a plethora of amazing ideas, and the February 2009 issue is no different. Not only is Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf herself) the featured cover girl, but one article in particular has left me in dire need of a full-blown sugar rush.

"Sweet Dreams" is the party idea of my...well, dreams. Cupcakes and fashion go together like Oreo cookies and milk. Perhaps it has something to do with the fashionable Marie Antoinette and her legendary "let them eat cake" quote, or the devotion that Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw always displayed towards New York City's Magnolia Bakery. No matter what, it's just a given. You can't have fashion without cupcakes, or cupcakes without fashion.

Which is why this Valentine's Day I will be trading in my Juicy Couture mittens for oven mitts as I have...A Cupcake Affair. There will be lace and bows, headbands and tights, capelets and pillbox hats, high heels and high fashion. And, most importantly, lots and lots of cupcakes!

Pink Puddles

Rain is on the horizon and all I can think about is curling up in bed with a good mystery. Browsing through thrift stores for vintage accessories. Baking cupcakes just for the fun of it. Watching a chick flick movie marathon. Dancing to guilty-pleasure pop music in my pajamas. Taking a catnap. Building a fort out of sheets and pillowcases and hibernating inside along with a lifetime worth of fashion magazines.

All of these things sound luxurious and craveworthy; yet so does skipping through the rain in a cupcake-pink raincoat.
