Smitten Saturday

Masquerade An outlandish idea is currently brewing in my mind; and that is to throw a beyond fabulous Masquerade Ball! Why this idea didn’t come to me prior to Halloween, as opposed to two weeks after completely evades my knowledge; but it has been flitting through my mind for the past few days now, and I see absolutely no harm in acting upon it. But before any talk of such an extravagant, lavish party can so much as begin one must consider the main attraction…the mask. If we learned anything from Gossip Girl’s take on the masquerade ball, it was that masks must be ostentatious, over the top, and absolutely stunning. Thus, I have narrowed my search down to three splendid specimens. The Feather Mask from Urban Outfitters is glamorous in a very dramatic, animalistic way – and looks just as heavenly worn headband style as it does over the eyes. Mardi Gras Costume Shop’s Civetta Delicate is the epitome of demure, dainty femininity courtesy of its pale pink hue and glittering surface. But my absolute favorite is Mask Italia’s Cignetta Silver/White. While completely out of my budget, this particular piece looks like something made with a Princess in mind; and the shimmering Austrian Crystal embellishment has the power to make you feel like one, as well. What do you say to a masquerade ball, darlings?

Jungle Fever I’ve changed my mind. All along I have proclaimed that, aside from a few accessories, leopard print would not be a part of my life. It would be an accompaniment to a solid hue; never the focal point. But a brief fling with Mossimo’s Black Women’s Faux Fur Shrug – Cat Print in a Target dressing room last week made a significant impact on my thoughts. I am now convinced that one’s life is never fully complete without a little jungle fever. Why not channel one’s inner Edie Sedgwick via Alice + Olivia’s Shawl Collar Faux Fur Jacket? Dress up a basic black ensemble with a Leopard-Print Faux Fur Jacket from Aqua? Or simply spice up your life with Forever 21’s Faux Leopard Fur Jacket? You’re only young once, darlings – be daring in your dress!

Teeny Tiny Teacakes While I have never been able to resist the idea of a tea party or tea parlor, I can’t say that I’m the biggest tea drinker myself. I prefer to get my start each morning courtesy of a Venti anything from Starbucks – preferably a Light White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, to be truthful. That said I’ve never been able to resist a charming cupcake; so the fact that Layers’ Cupcakes has begun concocting CuppaTeacakes leads me to believe that I am destined to become a lover of all things tea for life. Each little cupcake is infused with gourmet loose leaf tea which spices up both the cake and the frosting; providing all of the Alice in Wonderland-inspired allure in a pint-sized dessert. The question is which flavor to savor first…the Crimson Berry, the Mix and Mingle, the Sassafras, the Tahiti, or the Allure (known for being an aphrodisiac)? I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try them all!

Something Fruity This Way Comes I’ll be honest, mes chéris; when it comes to dining I subsist almost solely on fruit and coffee. When it comes to jewelry, on the other hand, while I’m more than willing to accept any piece that happens to find itself in my midst, I favor gold, gold, and more gold. So what more perfect way for one to get the best of both worlds than by indulging in a little Gold & Citrus? Each scrummy piece is named after an acidic fruit that manages to do both your body and your accessory drawer good – I can’t say the same for your wallet, of course! I’ll take Clementine, a scarf-like necklace made of hand-woven 24kt gold-plated seeds and bugle beads; Tangerine, a headpiece whipped up with the aspiring Greek goddess in mind; and Mandarin – a vintage confection crafted of antique wood grain sequins that derive straight from France. Ready for your daily serving of fruit, darlings?

What were you smitten with this week?

Fashionably yours!
